Benefits of the Whetball

The Whetball being a tool that is used in the pool it presents multiple benefits. With those benefits comes different avenues in which the Whetball can be used. The initial and main purpose of the Whetball is develop and sharpen the on-court skills of basketball players. Alongside the opportunity of skill development are the realms of rehabilitation, active recovery (overuse prevention), and common leisure. One of the greatest benefits of using the Whetball is that it is used in a low impact setting for athletes that play a high impact sport.

Water is more resistant than air and that resistance develops muscle. Being immersed in water is like surrounding your body with weights. Using the Whetball in the pool is similar to using water dumbbells. The Whetball offers more resistance when being pushed down, because you have to fight the resistance of the water. While dribbling underwater does takes advantage of this resistance while focusing on muscles and body mechanics utilized during basketball. The speed of movements determines the level of resistance experienced.

The aquatic setting provides the muscles used  with ample exercise without straining the limbs used. The water can reduce inflammation while helping tendons and joints (re)gain strength. Using water to reduce the effects of gravity also allow for greater range of motion and improved flexibility.

Results seen in users of the Whetball have been: a stronger and more controller dribble, improved mechanics, improved quickness, increased open court speed with the ball, increased explosiveness, as well as increased proprioception (body awareness). Proper mechanics  can develop core, upper, and lower body strength. To have the Whetball handle like an on court basketball proper mechanics must be used.
